After submitting your AMCAS, the last thing you probably wanted to have happen was you forgot a school or realized you were a good fit at one you didn’t apply to. Now you’re probably wondering if you can add them on afterward and what that cost looks like.

Today, I’m going to walk you through if you can add schools, how to add schools, when to add them, and how much it will cost to add a school to AMCAS. Let’s do it!

Can you add medical schools after submitting AMCAS?

The answer is yes. You can add schools at any point in the cycle as long as it’s before their application deadline. However, I would recommend that you apply no later than August of your application year or else risk losing out on interview opportunities that you may have had more of had you applied earlier. You should also account for the time you’ll need to spend on the secondary application they will send to you shortly after adding them!

How to add medical schools after submitting the AMCAS:

Now, adding these schools is not too bad. You want to go to amcas.aamc.org and pull up your primary application. After that, you will click the “medical schools” section/tab and this will bring you to all of the schools you’ve already applied to. As you can see in the picture below, there’s a button to “add a medical school” at the very bottom.

You’ll click that and then type your school and hit submit. They’ll charge your credit/debit card and then you’re set!

How much does it cost to add a medical school to AMCAS?

Well, this depends. If it is your first school on the list, this will cost $175 to cover the base fee and first school. If it is your second school or further, it will be an additional charge of $45 per school. Overall, you’re looking at a minimum of $175 to apply to one school, $580 for 10 schools, and $1,030 for 20 schools.

That is it! Go add your schools and get those secondary applications, interviews, and acceptances! Make sure to prepare on how to write letters of intent, letters of update, and letters of interest as well. Good luck!
